Wrong you could if they were close enough

EDIT: Assuming that they are both IDE and the HDD is not SATA

Wait. So I cant use a cable for my SATA 3GB/s HDD.

This Cable with this HDD

Edit: I need a SATA cable right?

No that won't work you need a SATA cable

For the Optical drive: IDE

For the HDD: SATA

No SATA cable will work with any optical drive. Optical drives use IDE and are therefore inherently incompatible with any serial HDD.
