First off, check and see if there are any other ports on the side of the camera. It is possible to us RCA cords, but it is much more trouble. If you have the manual, check for something called Firewire or IEEE 1394, most cameras made in the last few years should have this and it is the easiest way to transfer video.

yup if it has these ports you can buy an inexpensive dv to firewire port and use windows movie maker to transport the video onto your hard drive at great quality

i have always used a dazzle. i dont remember the name of it but it conects to the computer via usb, and it has rca imputs and outputs and s-vid ins and outs.
