Well for a time now I've been using my family computer for web-browsing, and email. the graphics sucked to much so I couldn't play games.

But now I got my own computer but I need an internet connection. We have comcast internet. Can I somehow connect my computer to the same modem my family computer is using?

You connect the modem to the router. Then you have two cables comming out of the router to each of the pc's.

If you modem has enough ports, yes you can run it off the modem.

But it is best to get a router or a hub / switch.

No you cant. My modem has an ethernet port and a usb port but, only one port can be used at a time!!

Yes you can use one of those on the second pc but, you will need a router as I mentioned. Note: Wireless speeds will be slower

i know that, but so your saing, I can run a cable from the router to one PC,

then use the wireless one to connect to the second pc right?

Yes.

I don't see how two ports are needed for one computer, for your modem....:confused::cool::cool:

If you buy a wireless router, then yes you can connect one PC with an ethernet cable, and the other PC can be connected wireless with a wireless network card.

By wireless network card, you mean the ones you put in the PCI slot right?

Your phone can't be connected to both (well you could, but I doubt that's the case), you're not getting the ethernet and phone cables mixed up are you?

Again, are you talking about adding a 20 foot phone cable from the phone jack to the modem, or a 20 foot ethernet cable from the modem to the PC?

to the first part, I meant my pc, and my phone are using the same modem, not the phone itself being connected to the computer + the modem.

and number 2, I meant a 20-ft ethernet cable from the modem to the pc
