The mount on my motherboard recently broke and so it will not hold the heatsink on top of the processor. Is it possible to get it replaced? What would the cost be?

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-M78SM-S2H

What you need to search for is am2+ retention bracket. Ebay should carry them for a couple bucks or you should be able to find them at your local computer repair shop.

Yes that will work because AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+ brackets are all the same.

Yeah it would, as long as it's Socket AM2/AM2+ you'll be fine
posted at the same time voyager :P yeah your right, forgot AM2 and AM3 use the same heatsink

(well with small differences, like the copper core on the AM3+)... Well my FX heatsink has one anyways

They're still the same bracket though. That's the only important part.

I am thinking twice about fixing this. I was planning on getting a new main board anyway within 1 year.

Is Gigabyte dropping in quality lately? Seems like MSI wants too much money for what they offer. MSI seems to be worst on quality control than Gigabyte and Asus.

This one is looking good to me:

ASUS M4A87T Socket AM3 AMD 870 ATX Motherboard - $103

I already have 4 gigabytes of Super Talent DDR3 RAM that my brother has tested extensively for me.

Looking at this for a Parallel ATA port:

Rosewill RC-215 VIA PCI Controller Card - $18
