can a laptop tie into a desktop????

probably a silly question, but........i have a laptop, and a desktop computer. of course the desktop is faster. is there anyway to use the laptop as the keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and tie into the desktop for the speed? would like to be able to use my laptop from the other side of the room, but have the performance of my desktop.
