Can a PC work without a videocard?

well, you need some sort of video, either integrated into the motherboard or a pci or agp one. what i think you mean to be asking is, do i need a good video card? well, if you are only doign the things listed then no, you dont need anything special. most motherboards have integrated video. if you dont know what that is, it is the blue trapezoid shaped port on the back of your computer. basicly any halfway modern computer will have good enough video to surf the internet and talk on msn.

actually, most motherboards dont have integrated video;) And yes, like Cile said, integrated video is plenty for your purposes.

Actually you should have said that most custom build's dont have integrated video, since there arent many ATX motherboard's that have it.

But almost everyone computer you buy off the shelf at a store such as Best Buy will have integrated video.
 
That's something i've not thought of actually, and should ask. Can a Asus A8N-SLi SE motherboard-based computer work fine without a video card? I'm building a basic family computer, and am planning on delaying the buying of the card by a few weeks.

Well does the board have integrated video? If so, then yes.

In the future, dont hijack threads.
 
Almost the entire A8N series doesnt have integrated video. If its an SLI board, then it definitely doesnt, as it is made for gaming. You need a card to run that board.
 
to answer your question. yes, you can surf the internet and talk on MSN Messenger without a video card. that's granted you have an onboard one with the motherboard.

it's either one or the other.
