So you take off two screws on the bottom of this Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop and you pull out the hdd slot. But then the actual hdd itself is located inside the slot. Haven't done it, but then you just take off four screws, two on each side and that's where the current Seagate 40 GB hdd is. I ordered a 250 GB hdd which is apparently the largest this laptop can handle from Dell via phone. $165.44 including taxes, no shipping fees. Seems kind of steep for a 250 gig hard drive, considering you can get a Seagate 250 gig 2.5" hdd for $75 on Tigerdirect. But I don't really understand the measurements. I'm trying to upgrade some of the minor stuff on this laptop my uncle gave me and I don't know if there are specific laptop hdd's for Dell's. I thought Dell had propiatery hardware, but now I'm not so sure considering Seagate is a well known hdd-maker. The only problem now is that the Dell drive has shipped already and according to their return policy they can charge you a restocking fee unless the item is not working or if Dell customer service made some sort of error. If I can return this thing and pay half the price, I'm gonna do it. But if I don't know for sure if something I buy is going to fit this slot, I don't want to take any chances. I'll try to reply to my own thread tomorrow with a photo of the slot with Seagate hard drive once I find my digital camera.
Thanks.
