Can anyone help re: Routers?

Im running windows xp pro sp2, erm with Tiscali broadband.

As of thursday I was running the internet through a BT router (2100), cabled on my PC and wireless to my laptop. But on thursday Tiscali network went down or something and I lost the internet connection.

Ever since then I cant use my router to access the internet, I have to use the modem (SAGEM) supplied by tiscali. Well that limits me to using the internet on 1 pc!

The ADSL, Wireless and Diag lights keep flashing on the router, according to the user manuel, its a problem with the ADSL line? But before I ring tiscali help line, I was wondering if this COULD be the problem, you know is it a HIGH possibilty or a LOW one?

Ive tried connecting the router various times but with no luck, just get the flashing lights and Invalid IP address.

Could the network outage have damaged my ADSL line? BUT why can I still connect via the modem?!?!

BUT, I can still connect via the SAGEM modem. I have tried another router Philips SNA6500 and that 'cannot connect the the ADSL line' or something.

Any help/advice, would be appreciated. Ive had no problems with my router until the outage on thursday.

Thanx
Lone :-)

Hello,
No, I run my router without the SAGEM modem.

The SAGEM modem was what I got free to connect to Tiscali.

I dont need that connected when I run the router.

Sorry, the router is an ADSL and the adsl line thing plugs direct into the phone filter, from the router (not the ADSL modem) and the CAT5 cable, from the router into the PC.

Does this help anyone with my prob?

PS

Also when I connect the router to the pc as above and the pc searches for an ip address, it comes up with invalid IP address when searching. But that could still be a prob with the ADSL line as the ADSL light still keeps flashing on the router?

The problem was my phone box thing that the ADSL line was connected to.

I tried the box in the kitchen and the internet worked straight away through the router, so now Ive got a loooooooong adsl cable from the kitchen box to my router in the spare bedroom.

Got there in the end!

Thanx for all the help, its always appreciated.

ok, go to your default gateway on your router. first make sure you have your modem pluged into your router and your desktop pluged into your router. then your gateway should be something like 192.168.1.1

type that into internet explorer or fire fox

type in your username and password to your router. configure the settings from there. if you need more help, feel free to send me a pm and i will get you some step by step pictures.

Hello mate,
I think its the second telephone box, as its working plugged into the box in the kitchen.

It wasnt 'how to' set the router up, that was the problem, it was that the ADSL light on the router was flashing, meaning there was a problem with the line.

Thanx

ok

ok, i see

i have that problem too, when ever someone unplugs the modem, because i have a dynamic ip.

but as long as it is working fine for you, thats good
