Can anyone suggest good editing software?

I dont want to use Microsoft Movie Maker, because it won't let me save files to be bigger than I want. I would like to edit out footage without compromising file size. I want large files so the footage can be good. I am transferring VHS to my computer so the footage is already only ok.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. Software doesnt have to be free, just has to work the way I want it to

P.S.S. Easy to figure out software would be nice too

Adobe Premier I know it costs alot retial but go on ebay and you can find a legit copy for $50ish.

Isnt avid supposed to be pretty good?
Ive heard good things about Premier.

I hate how much pro software costs.
(I edit on FCP mac so i dont have much PC experience)
