can burn cd's but not .avi movies

Hey guys i can burn music to cd's but can't burn .avi movies to disc.
Well it burns to the discs fine but wont play on my xbox, surround sound or dvd player in my room.
What's up?
It says ROOT and they are folders and i cant open them. And it shows the movie file but wont let me click it to play it.

You need to convert it to a special format to put a movie file on a dvd or cd. There are plenty of programs that automatically do this and burn it on the disc for you with the menu of your choosing.

I have been using dvd flick.

If you want to burn movies on a "cd" then you will need a special format aswell I don't believe dvd flick has the option to make video cds.
