Hey guys I'm abit of a noob with computers and I knew nothing about them years ago when I decided I would fiddle in control panel on my toshiba satellite c640 and I changed the virtual memory size to a number relatively larger than the default and I was wondering whether this would cause a computer to shut off unexpectedly?
I did use kali linux on it today though and the same thing happened...I was thinking it could just be over heating but I was wondering if this could be the cause.

If you're wondering here is the operating system and model:
Model: Toshiba satellite c640
Operating system: Windows 7 64 bit

Also I apologize if I've posted this in the wrong section as I'm new to this forum haha.

It's probably overheating. Changing the paging file size just changes the amount of HDD space the paging file takes up.

Ahh okay thanks for that, I figured that, just scared me cause my laptop never used to shut off for no reason till I changed it....and I believe it's that too because I've been diagnosing the laptop....it's fine while sitting idle but as soon as I run a movie or anything else the fan goes nuts.

Yeah, its overheating, probably have dust bunnies inside around the fan or blocking the vents.

Blow the dust out. Don't use it on your lap. Despite the name, laptops are not really meant for lap use. They should be on a table so they can breathe. On a bed is even worse.
The best thing is to take the laptop apart and blow the dust out but most people don't want to do that so you can just try getting a can of compressed air from radioshack and blowing the dust out of the vents wherever you see them. This has the negative side effect of blowing dust INTO the laptop when you really want to blow it out but such is life :)
