I currently have one of my two computers able to access the internet via the Ethernet connection coming through an Arris TM502 Telephony Modem and broadband cable.
I would like to be able to access the internet from the second computer which is about 25 ft from the modem. I originally thought that I would have to set up a simple wired network using cheap router, but I downloaded the manual to the modem and found this,

USB
USB (Universal Serial Bus) is meant for connecting a variety of accessories, such
as keyboards, mice, printers, and communications devices (including Telephony
Modems) to a single computer. Use the USB connection if you have only one computer,
and the computer is using a Windows operating system (Windows 98 Second
Edition or later), and has no built-in Ethernet hardware. The Telephony Modem
package comes with a 5-foot (1.6m) USB cable.

If you have two or more computers, you can connect one computer to the Telephony
Modem’s USB port and one or more other computers to the Ethernet port. To
connect two or more computers to the Ethernet port, you will need a hub or broadband
router (available at computer retailers). (End Quote)
So it appears that I could use the Ethernet connection for my primary computer and a USB connection for the secondary. I haven’t attempted the USB hookup yet so I don’t know if its slower than the Ethernet connection.
Just wondering if anyone has done this before to save the expense and hassle of setting up a wired network, and if so, how it worked out.
