Can I buy a domain name and host the files on my comp?

Can I buy a domain name and link the domain name to my IP adress and host the files from my computer? to save mony and not pay for web space

i had a program that allowed you to share your files on the internet, simply type in your ip address and there you go, like a file server. I would imagine that you can transfer that ip to something like www.holidaysfiles.com or something.

ya, you can have the program display a web page when you type in the ip, although i never got this program to work on the internet, only on my network, since it always showed my ip as 192.168.xx.xx, i just went to www.download.com and searched for file servers or something. (i dont remember the name of the program)

You can, but when you turn your PC off, people canno longer connect, and also it'll get slow with when more then like 5 people are on it, unless then are alllike 5K simple html pages.Its limited to yourISP's upload speed.
