can i do this upgrade ? and would it make a difference ?

my sister has an old e machines PC running a 1.70ghz celeron cpu with 128mb ddr pc2100 266mhz 184pin and 40gb hard disk.

there are 2 memory expansion slots on the motherboard and the 128mb stick is in 1 of them.

the pc runs very slow !

would upgrading it to a 512mb PC2100 266mhz ram stick in make a noticable difference to performance ?
and could i put a 512mb in 1 slot and the existing 128mb in the other making a total of 640mb or do the memory mods have to be the same ? (i.e 2 x 512 or 2 x 256 etc...)

any help appreciated

thanks

The added 512mb would make a huge difference to the performance of her computer, and yes you can put both sticks of ram in they don't have to be the same size.

you should consider a 2 x 512 that would be much better than a 640 and it wouldnt be much more. or a good 1 g considering you might want to upgrade later.
