Can i do this?

My mum uses the internet from dial up, and i use the internet from broadband dsl, but for some reason we cant have both going at the same time, is there any way to do this?

That shouldn't be a problem as dial up uses the regular phone-line... Do you have all the filters in place? How about ISPs? Are they both from the same service?
