I have been getting some very concerning emails lately and they entail a link to a medical website and private messages that suggest that i need to be on medication and should read the websites about mental disorders. The thing is, when I tried replying to the email, it came back as undeliverable. Someone is messing with me big time and using a fake email address of my church!!! I went on the website and you can send the link to anyone you want using any fake email you like. You could type in [email protected] as the sender and it will send it to the recipient. Is there any chance that i can find out how is sending me those stalking emails?

My husband is a little psycho and we are getting divorced, so I am almost sure its him, but he denies it and I just want to make sure there is not some crazy person out there messing with me!!

Thanks for all your help in advance!!!

If its your hubby, then you may as well change your email address because blocking him would be useless. He will just use different email addresses to spam you with.

Otherwise, google this...finding reverse email address. There are loads of sites that can help.

yeah i agree...just change your email address and only give it out to people you realy trust :)

There are ways, but it involves a lotta math and if your calculations are right, there is some way to find out the IP address they were sent from. I dunno exactly how but, a few network administrator friends have done a few things like this, they said something about a tracking email.

The IP headers should have the original sender's IP that can be reported to the appropriate authorities as well as the sender's ISP.

I honestly think you should just change your email address. You can CC it to everyone you want to have it.

Also, if you are going through a nasty divorce and you really think it's him, let your attorney know about this. He will find someone who can track the IP address down. It's harassment and needs to be dealt with.

The thing is... I need to have proof that it is him. Unfortunatley I can't change my email, or if I do I will have to give him the new one. We have kids and we use this medium to make arrangements for him to meet up with me to see them. So, it's not really an option :-(

Is it hard as a "normal" citizen to find someone that can help me find that address? And is it at all possible if he sent it directly from a website??
I know if I have proof in my hands that it is him, then he will refrain from doing it!

Ovenmaster for the win!!!!

You need to examine the headers of the email and then report him, block him, or take other necessary steps to stop the spamming.

Also, depending on what state you are in, that is highly illegal and spammers have been sentenced jail time. What email client do you use? You need to view the header information on the spam email, copy/paste it here and I can trace it for you to a point. Once legal issues come into play I would stop.

What site is it? Most joke sites like that state that it cannot be used excessively or in a malicious manner. If you alert them to his activity, they may provide information about him, and you may be able to press charges if wanted.

not trying to get you freaked out or anything but, If its not your Husband you should call the police and get them involved thats harrasment. I mean if your sure its not your husband..

How do I view the header info???

that depends on several things...

1) what type of email do you use? POP, IMAP, web based, etc? Are you using the email your ISP gave you?

2) What client are you using, outlook express, thunder bird, etc?

There should be a properties tab on the email and it will say view source, and it will have a bunch of text that looks like code at the top, that is the header.

No it can really be done, you have to send a "stimulus" email, though.

I am pretty sure that intel is correct in saying this...

Also, I reckon you should report the happenings to your lawyer, and also the police..

Kent.

Some type of email that contains something to withdraw IP information that has to be decoded *shrugs* I just heard about it

I googled the hell out of stimulus email and am not seeing what you are talking about. Anyways, IP information is always in the header of the email, no matter what. Now, a hacker or whomever can spoof the headers of an email to put in false information, but I am sure that topic is not allowed on the forums.
