Can I fix a keyboard on a laptop?

My brother has a laptop that has some keys that stick.

Is there any way to fix this. It makes it really inconvenient to type if he has to mash the keys every time he has to press the buttons...

"2,3,4,6,9,f,g,c,v,b,and ",".

What can be done?

Yes you can usually replace the whole keyboard quite easily. That would be the easiest solution.

Each laptop is different, however normally it just requires removing a handful of screws underneath the laptop and removing some trim. Then the keyboard just pops right out. The best bet is to remove the keyboard and type the model number of the keyboard into eBay.

All laptops aren't the same but many of the ones that I've worked on simply required you to pop off a trim piece along the top which exposes 2-3 screws that hold the keyboard in place. Once those screws are removed the keyboard can be removed. One thing to watch out for is the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard, you need to be careful not to break the connector.

As was mentioned, you can usually buy a new keyboard on Ebay for a very reasonable price.

Would this require unscrewing the whole case? Is newegg.com the best place to go for this?

Get the keyboard on eBay it's full of 'em. Just type the laptop model name/no into eBay you'll see them.

The laptop manual will tell you how to remove the keyboard.

In many cases broken or sticky laptop keys just requires popping off the keys and cleaning underneath. My gf's keyboard had numerous keys that would not work. I took every single key off and cleaned it up good. Now all keys work and I saved $30 for a new keyboard
