Can I get some advice please

Hi, I am starting my first build soon. Can i get some reccomendations on what companys to go with. These are who I have been looking at

AMD X2 (is it the fastest or should i look elsewhere?)
ATI X1800T
4GB Memory


Which case and mobo are good?

oh and will Intel ever catch up to AMD?
 
i have an amd x2 processor and it works great for multitasking and gaming. It depends what you will be using your computer for, e.g intel processors are better with video editing. I think 4gb is a bit much to start out with, you shouldnt need that much.
 
well I will be doing some hard core video editing but i will also be gaming and the normal computer stuff along with php an mysql editing, ftp etc...
 
seriously can i get some advice on what to pick here. what would be better for me amd or intel? what processor? i do have a crap load of programs open at once as well
 
why would you even want 4gb RAM? i build servers for CAT scan machines and they use 4gb, sometimes less. you dont need that. just because you spend a lot on it dont mean its gonna be beneficial. the fact that you still dont know what processor to go with just sums up that you haven't done nearly any research.

intel=apple
amd=orange

its hard to compare an apple to an orange. but they are each good at something.

amd is for gaming, hands down.
intel is for data creation, having a lot of apps open at once, encoding/decoding media, typical business stuff.
 
ask god for a motherboard that lows you to run a pentium D, and a athlon 64 X2......JK! but yea wich of the 2, do you more often use your computer for ?

if its gaming go amd... if its buisness type go Intel

my o2... i used to have a pentium d 920 presler ( wich is dual core ) i played games and encoded etc.... i have gone with the x2 3800+ ( wich is amd) i can still do all my buisness typical stuff the same.... but play games mucho better!

Stick with the AMD X2, it's great for what you need. But I don't know if you need 4 gigs of ram, 2 gigs is usaly enough. As for motherboard check out the Asus ones, they never let me down. Here a nice one supporting dual core CPU:
