I've got an Apple Mac. If I buy a Windows Vista laptop can it connect wirelessly to the Apple Mac? Will any special software/hardware be required or is it as straightforward as connecting a windows laptop to a windows PC?

Thanks!

Do you have a wireless router? If so, it should be fairly easy. I'm not so sure if you can connect directly to the Mac without a router, though.

lol. and i dont have a mac to try. but what you want is called a ad-hoc network. i will google it and edit it back in. but all you need to do is have a lan connected to your mac and the wireless will broadcast so your other computer can get it.

ok i hear it is possible i just cant find a how-to. it should be state forward but if you need help just ask

Thanks for all the replies. If I get a wireless router and connect that to the apple mac it should be easy for the windows laptop to use that connection, right?

Thanks again!

Basically, my question is - "is it different using an apple mac as the "base" computer with the wireless router connected to it than using a windows pc?"

I don't believe so. It doesn't really matter which computer is the "base" computer. Right now I have a wireless router, with an old windows computer direct connect, and then a Windows desktop wirelessly connected and the macbook connected wirelessly. As far as printer sharing and file sharing, you might have to work at it some, but it shouldn't be terribly hard.
