Can I improve my internet speed?

Hello Everyone,

I recently got visited by the iiNet crew because I complained to them that my internet is way too slow. They were very unhelpful for a number of reasons but mainly because they had no solution to the problem. According to them, because I live in a new/modern area the internet lines going to mine and the houses around me are very, very slow. Apparently there is no solution to this. Is this true? Am I the only person this has happened to? Surely this can not be correct!?!!?

I just tested my internet speed:

Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you post your connected information out off your router, what type of connectivity is your connection do you know? ADSL? Did they say how far the exchange is from your house. How old is your house? (internal wiring is quite an popular issue if you don't notice fluxuated deflations in your speeds at certain times in the day say after work when everyone is connected to the same exchange)

What is your internet rated at? If you're paying for say 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up and these are the speeds you are getting, I would demand they either fix it or reduce your monthly charge.

You will find in the small print that you have no chance of getting anything changed. What area generally are you in?

It's actually ADSL2 not ADSL. I'm not paying for a certain speed just an amount of download per month and generally my area is Melbourne in Victoria. Is that specific enough?

It's slow but it also keeps cutting out!!! I have to get up, turn the router (or modem, don't know the difference) on and off every 10 minutes. It's getting really bad.

Thats how DSL is.....which is why no one wants it.... I canceled my cable completely and am now just tethering internet from my cell phone with low service in my area and Im still getting 2mbps down and .8mbps up. Which is probably about as good as DSL would be in my area but Im only paying $10 more a month to be able to tether with my phone.

If you want faster speeds you gotta get cable. DSL wont offer you much at best.
