Can I install operating system from CD to a different computer?

I bought a Dell laptop with windows vista already installed. It came with a windows vista CD.
I would like to purchase a new desktop on ebay. It has no OS. Can I use the CD that came with my laptop to install windows to the new computer?

I don't want to purchase the computer unless I know that I can use the Dell CD to install windows. The CD says on it "use only to install on a Dell PC".
The new computer would not be a Dell. Problem is I don't know if the Dell CD would allow me to use it on a non-Dell.

so no you cant use it for both your laptop and a desktop.

It would probably install on the desktop if its a full Vista cd and not a Repair but you would be breaking the licence agreement.

1 licence = 1 machine.
