Can I make a 2ndary laptop act as a monitor?

I want to hookup my friend's laptop & mine for when we watch movies.He does not have internet.Both laptops are 64bit windows 7 premium.I believe our screens are exact same size as well.Both have VGA.Mine has hdmi also,not sure if his does.
Is it possible,& how do I do it?
I thought all I would have to do is hook the vga cable to the laptops & it would show a menu on both asking which to select as the main.But it could also cause both our laptops to freeze & lockup,from trying to load both at the same time on the same screen.
So I figured I should get some info about this before attempting.

No, you cannot link the two together over video connections like that. (You could, but nothing would happen.) You could share the screen, but the quality would be poor and choppy.

Sharing the screen would be through networking software. It's not speedy and would lag. Plus you probably wouldn't get any audio.
