i heard good things about overclocking duo cores. how can i go about doing this? would clockgen work in this case?

Clockgen can work but you can't increase voltages or change the multipliers. Because of this you will be limited in how far you can overclock. The best place to go is the BIOS but if you have a prebuilt system from Dell/HP/etc then the BIOS will not have any overclocking options.

yeah unfortunately i do have a prebuilt hp. but i did notice that its running an asus mb. would that make a difference in having overclocking options? if not is there a way to obtain such options?

HP uses Asus built motherboards but the BIOS will be locked up. Clockgen would be the only thing you can use.

I could never get it to work either but for a lot of people it works. Personally I think Asus is crap now but that is of course just my opinion :P

Because you have an HP, the BIOS locks out and disabled any overclocking or advanced tweaking features (as others have already stated). And as Cromewell suggested, ClockGen possibly will work if they have the right PLL for your motherboard. Even if you do get it to work though, you have very limited overclocking, where you can usually only raise the FSB. So voltage and RAM timings/speeds will become an issue very quickly.
