Can I record TV with my 7800gt?

I'm new to recording TV, so I'm wondering if I can record TV from my TV to my computer. I have an adapter piece that supports HD, S-video, rca, and some more (maybe input?). Will this work?

no i think you need a tv tuner card. or you can get a ati all in wonder videocard that has a tv tuner card built in.

ckfordy - My 7800 had input capabilties, and I'm pretty sure all the others do... I mean I did have one of the cheapest ones.

3 are Component out, one of those is plain RCA out, SVHS out, then RCA in and SVHS in. They all should be labled something like this, component being like Rb and other rather random letters :P

Look on nvidia's site, they have drivers for the input somewhere there. After that, you just need the correct software. Media Player Classic will play the video back no problem, but will not capture anything...

A side note, as you might guess, the card does not have audio capture. You must use the line-in on your sound card to get audio.

O.o I thought I just clearified you could... If you mean using say coaxal cable, you do need a tuner, but you can go out though RCA or SVHS from your TV into the 7800 and sound card.

I do have a vcr, which has an output, and the antenna cable going to the VCR. Please tell me this eliminates the need for a tv tuner. I don't want to buy one, so. I just want to record tv shows onto my computer.

so letme get this straight. Your cable box outputs to your VCR which outputs to your TV? So i guess you can plug the composite video cable into your VIVO graphics card and that should record.

A capture card with a tuner only allows your computer to tune into stations. You can just go out though the VCR into your computer, but you can't control the stations this way for obvious reasons. Quality is dropped slightly as well, but nothing major.

So no, you don't NEED a tuner...

Ach, so many holes to plug cords into:( So, video capturing is working, and now for the audio. So which do I plug the audio output on the VCR to:

a)The microphone plug-in
b)The SPDIF plug-in
c)The In/Out plug-in that is right next to the SPDIF
d)Something else?

Any input would work as long as you have a matching output...seeing as you seem to only have a basic VCR, that'd be line in or mic in. They are baically the same, but mic in is amplifed. If you check under the sound proporties, there's usally a way to disable the mic boost.
