Can I reinstall XP?

I have a HP desktop about 12-14 years old that came with Windows XP. Over time, I had installed a lot of applications so the machine is bloated and slow to a crawl. I don't use this machine for anything these days.

I am about to upgrade my other working machines to Windows 10. I have some older hardware, like my Epson V30 scanner that I am having some problem with the new Windows 10. I want to move this scanner to the old XP machine. But the machine is so slow, I am think of formatting the drive and do a clean install from the restoration discs I have.

Can I still do that, now that MS no longer support XP? Would I run into problem?

Yes you can but the main problem issue would be security. It is becoming more and more of a threat than anything else. I'd suggest using a light version of Linux, that is still being updated (and free).

This machine won't even be turned on unless I want to use those legacy devices. I can unplug the internet connection and it won't even matter.
Thanks.
