Hi All,
I have an old, assembled P4 machine with the following specs:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40 GHZ 2.41 GHZ 256 MB of RAM, 80 GB HDD, Win XP

Will my PC be compatible enough for an upgrade of RAM?

In addition, which brand of RAM to use?

I think it depends mostly on your Motherboard, if you can find out what make and model it is it will help. That will also help with choosing what sort of RAM to use.

Some good manufacturers are Kingston and Corsair. I personally have Kingston in all of my machines.

Go to www.crucial.com and run memory scanner tool. This will show you how much memory you have and how much it can hold. It will also tell you what kind of memory you need. I don't recommend buying the RAM from Crucial they tend to be high priced, but it's a great place to get info.

Go to computermemoryoutlet.com - the site has the best prices. Just search for your PCs make and model.
