Can i use a PATA hdd (with pins) inside a laptop with SATA connection with an adapter

I think so. You won't be able to put the drive inside though and I'm pretty sure you'll need a male->female SATA cable.

I have heard some people have had problems with the Parallel ATA to Serial ATA adapters. They stated a hard drive connected to one of these adapters runs pretty slow. You may or may not successful with this little project.
