Can I use my N card on my G Router until my N Router Arrives?

I just ordered an excellent new N Router from Cradlepoint that I got on sale for $199 including free shipping in US (if anyone wants the name of the company just ask, really good people) and also bought an N card which arrived today. My question is, while I wait for my N Router, will the N Card work with Time Warners Netgear G router and if so, will I get faster speed, transmission or should I just wait till the N Router arrives to use the N card. Thanks for your info/help.
 
You can use your 802.11n card with an 802.11g router, no problem. You won't get any faster speed then you would with an 802.11g card, but if it's only for internet access then it won't matter.
 
Weird Improvement Speed Doubled!

I used the N card with the G router as an experiment in my home and my download speed doubled which I don't quite understand unless it created a much more powerful signal going through the 2 walls that surrounded the G router and my laptop with the N card.

As an aside, when I installed the Cradlepoint MBR 1000 N Router, speed doubled and tripled from the original speed coming from the G router to G card!
 
You may have had a "Super G" or "Xtreme G" router with only a standard G card before, as there are technically 2 formats of G that are out there. The "Super G", "Xtreme G" or "Rangebooster G" are approximately a little over twice as fast as the standard G devices. As for the N format on both ends, that would be consistent with the offerings of the N format over G.

One other explanation for the increase when using the N card with the G router could have been that you ISP increased your connection speed, as many companies have been going through major upgrades recently, and that timing may have just been coincidentally the same as the time when you switched cards...
 
I measured the speed without the "N" card first that had my internal G card and then measured the N card multiple times right after. As far as the previous router which unfortunately I have no documentation on to state the exact model, it was a Netgear combination Broadband modem with wireless antenna supplied by Time Warner Roadrunner.
