can I use one of these connections?

Hi Guys,
I just acquired a new used Win 7 computer and am transferring files over to the new computer. However, All my pictures, videos, memory hog files are on a 40gig HD with the old style IDE connector that I would like to install in the new machine. I am not sure if any of these connections can be used on my old 40gig HD. Can you tell by looking? It appears to me that the existing HD in the new machine is a SATA and there is a branch off with the same type of connector on the end of that cable. There are also two unused connectors that look like the old style. Can one of these be used on my old 40gig?
Also, The existing HD measures about 4" wide and 5.5" long. And everything I see advertised is 3.5" and thin for notebooks and laptops. If I have to buy another HD to move everything from my old 40gig to, I think I might have some problems finding the right size.

Anybody have any advice?

Hi John, You are a prince among men! You helped me get my browser problem solved. Now I have a new challenge. That of learning Win 7 and getting my files over to the new machine. I could have transferred all the photos etc over to the new machine but it would have left only 13 gig open as the main HD is only 80 gig. So I moved everything I could move over to the 40 gig thinking that I could do the same thing I have now on my old computer as an additional drive. But the cables are the old style on the 40g. So if I just buy a 3.5" Sata HD I will have no prob finding a cage to put it in and find a sata cable as well? I really would like it inside the computer rather than external. I lost a massive amount of data on an external drive once and I just don't trust them. Silly I know...as the inside ones can go bad too. but SOG (silly old grandma) just thinks that way. Is there any other specifications electrical wise that I should make sure of?
Can u give me a suggestion as to speed and recommended other aspects to look for?
Thanks for your help again!

According to the pics, you have space to add another regular sata hard drive and have open sata ports. So just buy a 3.5" sata hard drive, say 250 to 320 gb and copy data over that way. You will still need to use that adapter I linked you to if you need data from the IDE drive.

Great! Thanks John for your input. As a matter of fact I think I may have one of those adapter cables out in my workshop already. It certainly looks familiar. I appreciate your feedback and advice. Bless ur heart!
