Can my work monitor my laptop?

Hello, I have a quick question. I was recently disciplined for accessing a dating website using the works desktop. They have spectresoft installed, and monitored everything I was doing, including my IM's on the site. I was wondering, if I brought my personal laptop in, and connected via ethernet cable ( through the company ) would they be able to monitor my laptop?

I'm 99% sure they can't, but I'm still worried.

And I work 3rd shift, they have allowed my laptop to be brought in, in the past.
 
If it's through their Ethernet, of course they can monitor what you do. Presumably they have a LAN so they have access to all traffic. If your data is encrypted they still know the IP addresses of the destinations. It depends on the company as to whether they bother, but your past experience should be a warning.
