What exactly is it - and what do you use it for?

What hardware / software would I need to do it?

Any websites that cover the topic pretty thoroughly?

I'm completely naive to the whole video editing topic - except that I see it mentioned from time to time on Sites like this one. I would like to educate myself on the topic generally - and see if it's something I want to dive more in depth into.

Depends what you want to do, there are plenty of forums on the subject.
The best one is doom 9 , read a few tutorials on what intrests you.
