can someone answer why my computer is slow?

My computer is a 2000 with windows xp and i cant seem to make it go faster? can anyone tell me whats wrong? i have talked to a few people and they have said that the internet should run just as fast as the internet is.....if that makes sense. I have highspeed but my computer is still slow. i dont get it. im not the best with computers. please help

How do programs load up, they pretty fast, or do they seem to lag also??

Start out by running some scans for us.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here, here, here or here and save it to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Lack of RAM (Random Access Memory) is probably one reason it's lagging. XP needs at least 512MB to function good, 1028 if you want it to kick ass.

it ran quick before it just wouldn't show something. we downloaded adobe and then it was working fine and now its slow....

im running IE 8 and here are my results from the speed test... Is this good?

It is your computer hardware that is lacking. a single core 1ghz cpu and only 128mb of ram is your biggest problem.

Reason it is lagging now and not before is because windows xp uses up pretty much all your RAM. Over time you install more things on your computer, some of which run in the background without you even knowing it. That is taking up the rest of any RAM you had available, which wasn't very much.
