I have a i5 2500K and want to over clock it to about 4.4-4.5ghz. I have watched some videos, but don't fully understand. Can someone help me with this?

Thanks!

Easy cheesy.bump the muliti up a little at a time. :D

For how long should I run prime95 after a bump in the multiplier?

I've seen people say 2 hours, 12 hours, and even 24 hours.

Thanks for the help guys!

Also what if my mobo has a preset for a 4.2ghz preset, would it be okay to go with that or just OC myself? How much should I increase voltage if there is a failure?

Prime 95 does a really good job at finding errors if there are going to be any. When you are OCing try running it for 10ish minutes when you are getting to your target clock speed. Once you have reached your final clock speed test it for a few hours. 3-5 should do just fine.

Do not use the presets. They use way too much voltage. When you need to bump the voltage, do so in the smallest increments that you can. Then re test for stability.

I use IntelBurnTest. 10-15 runs should guarantee general stability (this is with IBT on maximum stress). Prime takes too long to find instability. 25-50 runs should be used when you find your maximum overclock to make sure it's stable.

Thanks linkin, I will look into this software.

Edit: What stress level do you use when testing, the max?
