Can someone help me with upgrading Ram?

Hi. I am trying to add more ram to my system. I currently have a PC2100 512mb (266mhz) installed in DIMM1. I just bought another PC2100 512mb (266mhz) to add. The problem is that when I insert the new memory into the DIMM2 slot, the computer won’t load up. Not even to the Bios. I know each one works because if I load up individually on DIMM1 slot, my comp works fine. Is there some sort of configuration on bios I must do before I can add more ram or maybe DIMM2 slot is damaged and cannot read?

Howdy,

It's likely that your motherboard only allows up to 512MB of RAM, why I don't know, do you know the model of the motherboard?

i'm pretty sure gcr is right if it accepts PC 2100, try only putting in your new ram stick to see if it's just faulty ram

He says each stick of ram works separately. In addition, if the RAM operated at a speed higher than the motherboard can "handle", it would simply downclock the speed of the RAM.

my motherboard takes up to 2gb. Its agp motherboard running with 3.0 ghz P4 HT. Both memories work fine separately. But when i fill both DIMM slots, the comp won't start. it starts but doesnt load the comp. just in pitch dark

if i plug it in just the dimm2 slot, same thing happens, nothing shows up. dimm slot 1 is only functional with individual memory. but if dimm2 is messed up, wouldnt it just ignore it as if nothing is in there?
