i have an emachines t5234. my keyboard stopped working the other day, so i went out and bought a new one. i plugged it in and it still dont work, so i thought it was a defected one. took it back for another one and same thing. when i plug it in, the "installing new driver" message comes up, but just keeps spinning as if it cant find the driver to install and does nothing. my mouse still works fine. when i reboot, i can access the bios by hitting F2, so i know the motherboard port is working. the light on the keyboard lights up when i start the computer, and stays lit through the little bar progress thing when vista is loading. but as soon as the loading bar goes away and goes to the welcome page, the light turns off. this is all the info i know so far, so i hope somebody can help...thanks a bundle...by the way ive also scannes for viruses, and it came back clean

Does it work in safe mode? Is it USB or PS/2?

Try it in safe mode. If it works, then you may need to uninstall the driver from your previous keyboard?

If it's USB, try booting into Vista without the keyboard plugged in. Once it's loaded, try plugging it in and see if it finds the driver.

What's the make/model of your computer and your old keyboard and new keyboard? Did it come with any discs?

ive tries all those things just now. still no luck in safe mode or booting up with no keyboard then plugging in after booted. ive used both types of keyboards, usb and ps2 and nothing. ive tried all usb ports as well...the keyboard didnt come with any disc, and the make and model is in my first post, an emachines t5234...thanks for the reply, and any other help would be really great
