Hi, I just installed windows 2000 into my laptop, I have and IBM I series laptop so it is a bit older but runs good, I also installed a Linksys(R) wireless-g card, Well i want it to network with my XP computer so i can pass around large files and stream music to it, Well i made sure both computers had the Same workgroup name, "WORKGROUP", Well when i try to open "Entire Network" in Network Places on my Laptop it says "Unable to browse the network. The network is not present or not started." So i went to microsoft and they said go to the Regisrty and fix it by doing this "1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l
\NetworkProvider\Order
2. On the Edit menu, click Add Value.
3. Enter the following value:
Value Name: ProviderOrder
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value: LanmanWorkstation"

Well that also did not work, and i am stuck i would really like some help on how to fix this, my msn/email is [email protected]

1) What kind of wireless router do you have?
2) Are both getting IP's via DHCP?
3) If so, does your router have any type of Active User List that shows individual PC connectivity?
4) Since the laptop cannnot browse the workgroup, can the desktop (XP PC)?
5) Does your desktop PC have either the XP firewall, or a 3rd party firewall installed (i.e.- NIS, McAfee Personal Firewall, etc.).
6) Can you ping the XP PC from the 2k PC? vice-versa?

Assuming you are using a wireless router, where the XP PC is connected via ethernet and the laptop is connecting on the WLAN side, and the router is pushing IPs to the machines, then I would look into a firewall on the XP PC as a possible culprit. If you can't ping the XP PC from the 2k laptop, then it's unlikely they will see eachother in a workgroup setting. If there is a firewall, try disabling it temporarily.

Please provide more information about your network in general.

Good Luck,
Lobster
