Can someone school me on how the fans work?

For example, does your chassis fan blow air INTO the computer or out of the computer?

Does your PSU fan blow air in or out?

what about your CPU heatsink fan?

I'm just wondering because I just installed my heatsink differently than I had it before... I installed it so the fan is almost right against the main chassis fan in the back of the case. Is this wise? or a mistake?

Heatsink blows air from inside the case. Most power supplies that i know of have exhaust fans. "Chassis Fan"? You mean like case fan? Those you can set to blow in or out. Rule of thumb though is, best to have more airflow in than out, helps temps and helps keep dust to a minimum.

So you think it would be bad for my CPU temp to have the heatsink fan facing right into the case fan?

seems like it would be blowing air out right into a fan that's blowing air in...

the best way i find is to have the case fan(s) bringing in cool air.
psu fan as exhaust. the CPU fan on exhaust from the heatsink to take away the heat from the cpu.
i went a step further and have fans on my drives.
and have the hotter air running out the front vent.

this machine has been running now 11yrs without complaint

If one fan is blowing into another fan yes, most people set it up so front is intake, side fans are intake, and top or rear fans are exhaust, then have heatsink blowing out the rear exhaust. Generally try to follow a front to back bottom to top airflow pattern.
