I am helping a friend install an OS on his new computer.(AMD phenom 2 1090t processor and m4a89gtd pro mb.)
He wants windows xp and I have a legal copy of xp media edition which I`m trying to put in. For some reason it installs windows 7 perfectly but I get a blue screen error when I try to install any windows xp .
The screen tells me "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the computer" and to check for viruses, and hard disk problems
Tech info stop: 0x0000007b (0xf78d2524,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
I have tried both xp pro and xp media edition.
Any Insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks

thanks for the reply. It was the sata drivers. xp didn`t come with these drivers so I added the sata drivers in a new windows instalation disk and it installed the xp with out a hitch. thanks for the reply in the right direction

Were you trying to install a pre XP SP2 OS? Like SP1 or the original version of XP without a service pack applied?

That does not really matter on our unforcenate luck lol.Even XP disk with the built-in SP3 can't be installed on the SATA drives. You need to built-in the SATA drivers in the XP disk in order to make it work on the SATA drives lol.

Cheers mate!

Thats totally untrue. XP can be installed on sata drives without the sata controller. I have done it plenty of times. It usually depends on the motherboard or if it was a pre SP2 cd I believe.

Hmm that's weird. It doesn't work to me even if I have all 3 service packs built-in the CD disk.I need to built-in the SATA drivers in order to make it work.Nah who cares lol. It's important that it works this way or another... :D

If you have put windows 7 on the drive first. Xp will not load. xp has to be loaded first. Then Windows 7. I learned this when I was beta testing 7.
