hi,

im not able to see the cd-rom icon in 'My computer'.....

how can i get that back....

does anybody knw tht.........?

or else any other procedue to get tht back?

thanx in advance......

Does it power up?
e.g can you open and close the drive.

Im thinking maybe your IDE cable has come slightly dislodged from the drive or your mainboard.

theres no problem with opening and closing the drive........

the same thing happened before......

a friend of mine fixed tht problem by deleting some value in registry......

now he is outta here.....

im not able to contact him now......

im sure tht this is not a hardware problem........

any suggestions considerin these plsssssss............?

thanx in advance......

try even changing the ide cable it may be that there is some connections in the cable that have broken etc,

can you see it in the BIOS,

can you see it in the device manager

try boot in safe mode and see if you can see it there,

i found most of my hardware in safe mode instead of normal mode.

Do you mean just the "icon" has disapeared? or the entire refrence to the cdrom drive?

Do you have an Autoplay CD you can put in the drive? what happens when you put it in?

im not able to play any cds.......

i tried system restore but it couldnt fix the problem....

there is absolutely no reference to the cd-rom drive.....

Go to control panel/ system/hardware/device manager/ locate 'cd rom', right click and choose 'update driver' and see if that works. If it doesn't, do the same thing but choose 'un-install' instead of update. Now, completely shutdown your computer, open it up and detach the ribbon.Start it up again and once windows is completely loaded, shut it down again, attach the ribbon and start your computer.Once windows is loading, hopefully it will see it again and install the nesserary drivers for it.If it doesn't, it is probably broken as they do wear out and are very cheap to replace.
