can VIA motherboard support....

I have a system which has VIA motherboard with 1GHz processor?
Now i want to upgrade my PC's processor. and wana purchase a high processor of Intel Original 1.7 or 2.0?

What i need to know is that will my motherboard work with this new processor?

Please i need ur kind reply.

I am new to the world of IT.

And ram is 256 MB.
Now i want to upgrade my PC's processor. and wana purchase a high processor of Intel Original 1.7 or 2.0?

And which new processor you suggest for my PC?

i dont suggest anything that slow... but if you want to know if its compatible, then it needs the same socket type.
it might be socket 370...
either way its not going to be very fast... id say build a new system... or buy one.
 
Whats your budget, and intention for the machine? Cuz switching from VIA Procs to Intel/AMD procs requires a new CPU and mobo (and most likely ram/psu)
