Can Windows 95 running Office 2000 read files saved in Word 2007's new format?

Simple answer, no. The new 2007 format Office files can only be read by Office 2007. you will need to save it as an earlier version for it to be able to open the file.

You're wrong or you're bullshitting...

Word 2007 files can be opened by Office 2000 SP4, Office XP SP3 and Office 2003 with the Microsoft compatibility pack that you have to download. I ask this question because I just found out that Office 2000 supports Windows 95. Don't worry, I've resolved the problem.

no you cant because they both use different codes for the computer to read
it would be like trying to mate a horse with a rabbit (no can do)

it would be like trying to mate a horse with a rabbit (no can do)unless u download updates (the rabbit having a growth improvement)then it could be possable:D:D:D:D:D

That seems way too tedious to use on a regular basis (especially if dealing wiht large files), but I have to admit it is quite handy for those occasional needs. Thanks for the link.
Yeah, agreed. But for people who are on, say uni computers where the IT staff couldn't be arsed getting the latest Word or compatibility packs and don't have one of their own...Zamzar is a good bet. Nps. Hope it's useful to people Googling the same subject :-)
