Can Yahoo email account be infected?

This happened to me some time ago:

Overnight, email messages were sent to all my address book contacts telling them to click on a link... It happened automatically. I only knew when one of the recipients emailed me back. I had to apologise to all recipients later.

As a result, I deleted all my contacts from my yahoo address book. But I did export my contact list first.

It happened months ago. Now I want to recompile my address book. I was wondering if the same problem will happen again. Is it possible to scan my email account?

Note: All messages that were sent automatically did not show in the sent folder.

I'm not so sure your email account got infected especially if you use web based email like yahoo. Most likely someone has hacked your password and is sending emails out. One of my clients has been sending out spam emails through their hotmail email account and I had them change their password and have not received any more spam emails since.

I think I will have to change my password again.

Just a question - could it have happened through malware/adware, and got alright after malware byte scanning. Nowadays a scan my pc with malware bytes, super antispyware free, and avg free and hardly find worms/threats.

Long back it happened with me also, I had changed the password....now I don't have any problem with my account.
