Can You Evaluate My Plan?

Hello, Just wanted to say nice forum and lots of good info. Basically I'm in a hurry to get another computer. Right now I have a 2.3Ghz 512 Ram and PCI 64 MG video card.

I like to play Nascar sim Racing and other sims. I do a lot of multi-tasking on the computer as I'm a webmaster of many sites. At any given time I will have Frontpage open, Windows Media Player, Opera Browser, FTP Upload Program, Virus Software ETC.. I need A computer that will handle it..

Budget $600.00 US.

I really don't know that much about the technical stuff..And since I'm in a hurry for a computer..I just can't afford to spend a good week reading and then "guessing" at most.... Thats why I came here. To ask the people that actually know about the subject.

Basically I have come up with this:

Barebones setup:

Hard Drive:

Memory:

Video Card:

I have a CD burner and everything else needed....But I'm sick of having a slow computer.. for once I would like something that burns! And not choppy when I play these new games...

This list pretty much is just something I have thrown together ..because well.. To be honest it's kinda based on price because I'm not too sure as to how to build a nice computer...

I can build one myself.....Just not sure on what goes with what..(compatible)....and quite frankly ..I need this quick..and just want something I like...

The computer case I have is a tower... with 4 slots horizontal on the bottom.. and all the printer ports and such are located on the left side (looking from the back)..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....My head is spinning.. and I kinda feel sick... because...I really want something fast.. but don't want to make a mistake and end up kicking myself in the butt.. everytime I use it...

Kinda the feeling when you get a new computer and you go to upgrade the video card... only to find out that it only has PCI support.. arggg..

Really any help would be totally appreciated.......

Thank you,
Rob.

Well...This board made finding information a lot easier than I thought. Spent 2 hours and I feel pretty confident about this new setup:

MSI RX550-TD256E Radeon X550 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
$70.99

POWMAX CP0327PL-4 Window Black/Silver SGCC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 400W Power Supply
$28.00

Western Digital Caviar SE WD400JD 40GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
$49.00

ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
$122.00

Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel
$79.99

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BPBOX
$169.00

That all comes to $557.00 delivered to my door. Anything I am missing? I still need an OS... but I'll worry about that tomarrow...

Any recomendations - That seems right in budget.....

Thanks..

Rob.

im guessing that a case w/ a power supply and all for 30 bucks seems a little too cheap so i would probly suggest that u spend some more on getting a new psu...also u could earn a couple extra bucks by spending a WEE bit less on the motherboard...other than that...prettty good  what about a CD/dvd drive???

I'm not sure as to what mother board to get.. I seen 1 for $95.00 ... Just thought that one would be a lot slower than the one I have on the list. That case is cheap and p.s...

Finally bent down to see actuall specs on my current computer

I have an intel P4 2.66 right now 512FSB 256MB ram 80GB H.D 64mb vid card I believe..

I just want to make sure the new computer is better than this one... I'll take a look at some of the other boards....

I have a dvd burner...an older one ..but I don't really use the cd rom drive that much...

Edit: Wow.. now that I look at newegg.com I see there are a lot of lower prices boards... I can't judge the differences....

Thank you,

Here's another idea that fits into your budget and should perform better. There's no need for an SLI motherboard, unless you REALLY want one. The main advantage of this is the better graphics card, which should make a significant difference in gaming. Credit to Praetor for many of these components.

Rosewill RV400-2 400W Power Supply ($34.99)
Western Digital 80GB 8MB ($53.00)
Buffalo MAJOR 2x512 CL2.5 ($72.44)
Athlon64 3500 [Venice, S939] ($201.00)
CHAINTECH VNF4 ($69.99)
eVGA Geforce 6800GS (164.00 after rebate)
Total: $595.42

And the case of your choice (OK that'll put you slightly over budget).

Thanx..That mother board fits well into the budget... Just wondering why its such less money than the others... maybe SLI.... I don't want sli so that mother board is fine.

Like the proccessor upgrade!

I've only run games with stock vid cards soo I'm not too sure how each vid card will work.. but the one you reccomended seems like it will do the job..

Rob...

Part are going to be ordered tomarrow~! a little late but.. hey....

Still nervous as to if all of these components will work together.....

Anything I'm missing...??
