Can you folks recommend a good (i.e., stable) video capture software?

I would like to be able to capture images (e.g., from tv, cable signal, VCR...) in various video formats such as WMV/RM/AVI/MPEG1-2-4.

I would also like to be able to do some file trimming and/or extraction.

I was so pissed off by WinAVI. It sucked like hell. I captured video & stored in a WMV file format. During the playback, for every two seconds, the screen took a pause. When I attempted to do it in RM format, the file generated couldn't even be recognized by RealOne Player. I then immediately removed that buggie piece of crap from my computer.

powerDVD 6 has a great video capture on it i have used it fer a while now and no probs
i tryed VinAVI also but now it wont let me burn to disc after converting or not let me burn period

PowerDVD 6 doesn't seem to support Real Media (RM) encoding. When I capture video, my very first concern is the size of the output file. I generally prefer files in RM and/or WMV format.

Have you tried real alternative. It supports all real media, and I beleive you cam capture with it, but don't quote me on that

Too much trouble trying to capture & store in RM/WMV file formats. I give up.

My new focus is to first capture in MPEG file, then try find one of those converter software to change it into RM/WMV files.

Any free converters out there that does the job?
