do you have any weight preferences? 17 inches are around 8 pounds and bigger. 15.4 inches are around 5-6 pounds and a little smaller. yes they play perfectly fine. many games now support widescreen.

what about hp averatec emachines compaq what of those do you reccomend or a laptop from walmart bestbuy newegg or tigerdirect

hp/compaq has the worst line up of video cards. and every computer i have configured with dell has been better/cheaper than ones i have found at bestbest buy(including their lineup of emachines) and newegg. walmart tends to sell value computers for general internet surfing use. never really looked into tigerdirect.

i am a fan of the pentium M due to its incredible speed along with low wattage consumption.

and would this be a good videocard and does it play battlefield 2 on low settings perfectly

128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics

Would a 40gb HD at 5400 rpm be good for games though? also, what is that dell screen upgrade "with true life" is it worth it? Also, would I have to get Dells WIndows XP Pro or could Iuse the disk I use on my desktop PC now?

And.. Are these coupons only available to US customers and not Canadian?

k thanks alan and where do you get those coupon codes cause i configure your system and it is more expensive

?M1T$NG7GWRK2D $750 off purchase of Inspiron $1899+ (expires 8/24/2005 7:00:00 AM)
28WR3BP9QMLT0F $600 off purchase of Inspiron $1499+ (expires 8/24/2005 7:00:00 AM)
NKN5W3H8BS?RVB 35% off purchase of Inspiron $999+ (expires 8/24/2005 7:00:00 AM)

i used one of those dont remember which one. try them all and see which is cheapest.

as long as it is not one of those restore os cds. if it is a regular os cd then you dont need one from dell. most laptops comes with 4200rpm or 5400rpm rarely higher unless it is alienware or something. make sure not to get intergrated graphics with shared ram if you are going to play games.

Hmm alright, well i figure I can have this shipped to my grandparents in the US since its such a deal (got down to 1700 canadian!). but I am not sure on one thing - Should I get the screen with "true life" (+$200) or just stick with regular?

the desktop x300 is basically the pci version of the desktop radeon 9600. so the laptop version must be worst than that. i couldnt find any actual specs on the x300 about transistors, clock, and pixel pipelines, but from my experience they always have a lower count than the desktop. i havent played bf2 yet so if the radeon 9600 doesnt play it that well neither will the x300.

the geforce 6800 go is basically the desktop version the 6600gt and is the best laptop video card out. it has 12 pipes, five vertex shaders, 190M transitors, and supports shader model 3.0

i'm not a fan of the oil-slick laptop screen. reflects too much light. and i imagine the native resolution to be much higher if you are talking about the wuxga which causes all objects to be smaller. not a fan of that.

yes the hard drive is fine.

if you already have a copy then you could use it assuming you are trashing the other computer and is carrying over the xp pro. otherwise its illegal.
