Can you make a new account on a forum without it being traced to your old acc?

I would like to make a new account on a forum because I dont want all the mods (there are so many mods) to see who i am and I don't have any malicous intentions I just want some anonymity thats all.

I have bought a laptop and im going to move to a new place in couple weeks but I accidently entered that forum on my new laptop already and since its from the same IP as the PC that I use to access that forum usually they know that this laptop is me even though I didnt login to the forum.

So I'm wondering if after I have moved locations (new ip) that if its possible to remove all traces from my laptop so that when I access that forum the next time with a new IP that they wont know its me since they probably planted something (cookie at least) in my laptop already so just switching IP probably wont work.

Is it as simple as just clearing cookies or is there something more I must do?
I just want to be absolutely sure.
 
They can't tell if it's your laptop or another computer you log in on. It's all based on your public IP address; not the machine.
 
But I already connected to the forum with my laptop through the same IP as my PC (from home). Then they know that laptop is the same person as who has an account on the PC.

And if I would connect from a different IP with the laptop later they have at least put a cookie on it so changing IP wont work until I've cleaned away all cookies.. which is simple but I just want to check here if that is everything I need to do? I really want to be anon there because almost anyone can become a mod there and they are a bit corrupt and abusive and give away info about users on request etc.
 
I already told you they can only see your public IP address. You could log in on another new computer and they still wouldn't know it's a new computer.
 
oh ok, I just have this vague memory that its more complicated than that from reading somewhere long time ago so I was a bit surprised by your reply.

Before you end up wherever you're gonna end up just be sure you log out first before going back to the site. Otherwise then they'll know that IP is associated with that user.
