can you overclock with this?

I have a dell deminson desktop that I want to overclock for better performance in photoshop. You cant overclock with the stock mother board correct? So can I buy a new MOBO and use my stock CPU, RAM, PSU, and HDD after?
 
you may not be able to use your oem operating system with a new motherboard

you'll be able to use a new motherboard with the rest of your components, but you may be stuck having to buy a retail version of windows

Thanks! Kinda a to much to spend just for an overclock I guess. Might think about it though.

my dad bought me a comp from ABS and it had an OEM Windows and i am currenlty using the same CD on this machine

So what you are saying is that I do not have to reformate my HDD? I can just change out the MOBO and start overclocking my CPU after that? I do not have to purchase another copy of windows?
 
its different with different computers, i'm really not sure why. some computers will ask you to reinstall windows, but most will only ask you for the cd-key. idk, do dells come with those? idk... but anyways, if you have the windows cd-key, it should work fine with a new mobo

Yes, the windows cd key is located on the back of the dell.

So, your saying if I install in new MOBO they will be no need to install an OS?

You might have to reinstall the OS you might not. There are INF drivers that you can install before changing the motherboard and that will maximize the chance of not having to reinstall Windows.
 
They will be on a CD that comes with the motherboard. If you post a link to the board I'll give you a link to them. After you install them don't reboot, just shutdown and chage the board. There's no gurantee it will work, but it's the best chance.
 
i basically did the same thing to my mom's old dell.... i threw the mobo & cpu from it while recycling the hdd, ram, psu and case... every went together fine besides a couple screw holes on the new mobo not lining up good with the ones on the old case... didnt have to reinstall windows xp ethier! so there is basically a success story for u shake...
