My step dad's computer had a virus on it and we tried everything you can think of to find it but it would't budge. We have formatted the hard drive now and are installing vista again, however as his system is a prebuild it didn't come with the vista disc or recovery or anything.
I build my system and bought vista 64 bit when i did because at the time i had 4GB of RAM, so we have used that disk to format and reinstall windows but i was wondering if the key is alright to be reused on a 64 bit OS after being on x32.
I know that if the key doesn't work that you can contact microsoft, tell them and they give you a fresh key and i also know that each key is specific to the mobo, so because it is on the same motherboard would it make a difference? I also read somewhere that the keys are useable on x32 or x64 but that you may (the person hadn't done so didn't know this much) have to get a different key
