Can you use any power supply on any computer?

Sorry to post here, i already have a topic in the power supply forums but i just need a quick answer to these qustions.

Can you use any power supply unit on any computer? A PSU died in one comp and i want to use my other comps power supply to replace the other comp that died.

Also how dangerous is it to replace a power supply unit ?

As long as the voltage is equal too or greater, and it has the same kind of hook-up for the mobo, then yes.

It is not dangerous so long as the powersupply you are putting into the system can handle the load on it. if not, it may shut itself down, or it will go bang.

Generally speaking, if the two powersupplies are of the same brand, and one is higher wattage, use that one.

If you could take pictures of both powersupplies (the side with the sticker would be ideal for both!) and tell us which one is dead and which one you want to test, we can help.
