Cannot Boot Into Windows XP! Please Help!

hey (first post)

I'm looking for some help with a massive problem on my computer, whenever my computer starts, windows xp fails and says ntfs.sys is missing or corrupt.
I went through DOS commands to replace it, renaming it to ntfs.old and coping the old ntfs.sys off the xp cd, but to no avail.
My second attempt has been to reinstall windows on the same disk, under a different folder (WINXP instead of WINDOWS) so I could defrag, scan disk and replace alot of the system32\drivers folder (which ntfs.sys is located) but none of this has worked.

I don't want a working copy of XP at the end of this, I just want all my documents saved and backed up (all 40 GB of it: coursework, movies, music, artwork, programming) but on the working boot of XP, I get "Access Denied when I try to enter it.

Does anyone know how to break into my user on the other windows? M$ support is being useless as always, only telling me what I already know.

Cheers.

Essential Specs:
Windows XP SP2
NT File System
160 gb Hitachti Hard Drive
ATI X700 Pro
P4 3 Ghz
Plextor SATA DVD-RW

nm, managed to take control of the files using a XP Pro boot, disabling simple file sharing to I could change the owner from the other boot to my working on (XP Home doesn't have this feature...)

Thanks anyway, lol, was a hard question.
